I found a pillow
That beats the rest.
It's too bad
She got me
Off her chest.

Poetry's not my thing. Too easy to get cheesy. And don't know how to count properly.
But it looks like fun, so let's give it a try.

You ask yourself
in heated kiss
"what's this shadow
over your heart
killing the bliss ?"

Since I am still banned for a few hours and I have recently watched Alice in Wonderland, let me take the lead, Ian (you made not a bad one for not being a poetry admirer), while I change the rules again Smile
Let us honor our ancestors and let this become an alternating iambic tetrameters and trimeters challenge! Again, free topic; I'll start.

So peaceful at the beach

While I was strolling yesterday
I found myself in awe
for I had heard a wondrous say,
a chiefly rare "hello".
I wonder'd "where did that come from?",
I tried to 'lucidate
and then I came (I chanced) upon
a mostly newbie mate.
This man did utter stranger words
which were not widely 'mbraced,
but "hell", I thought, "if not on board,
where will this man find place?"
And there we were, becoming two
against the cruel yoke
of players not accustom'd to
b'ing banter'd nor provok'd.

And after that, my dearest friends,
I met another man
but I could not raise up my hand
for shortly 'fter I'm banned. Smile

And there I can't play anymore. It's all about un/stressed syllables, which is death for a native french speaker !
(it's not i'm not a poetry admirer, on the contrary: I think I don't have this talent Tongue ).

Come on, man, don't give up! Remember the classics: It's easy if you try! I'm not a native English speaker myself, but if I take my time everything sounds clearer.

And, after all, if it were not challenging, we could not put it in this thread Tongue

A tale, my dear Aneurismath,
That chills me to the bones
It makes me almost want to weep
And share with you your pain
Ah but alas it's common place
For people of this place
To be punished for reasons false
So cruel are our masters

So many empires of the past
Held in such hallowed tones --
And specters of them reappear
When you least expect it.
Pining for that past out of fear
Brings only ill futures
With bright spots that will never last --
Not without leaving it.

Nice entries, I hope to have new material soon enough

Been long enough -- time for limericks!
Any subject is fine.

If you're caught by a crabby crustacean,
Just call for help without hesitation
Pam watches the beach --
No swimmer out of reach --
And all thanks to her built-in flotation.
